Nugget's story:  Nugget is a 5-year-old golden retriever. He was the smallest of his litter rescued from a puppy mill. Nugget spent his first few months of life in a cage with very little human, or even other animal, touch. Through our friends at GRRAND Golden Retriever rescue and Pawsitively Professional Boarding and Training Kennels, Nugget found me when he was 3 months old. Our mentor Sharon Gretsinger worked weekly with us in a service dog training program for him to be the best therapy dog he could be. Nugget started coming to the office in 2019 when he was just 5 months old. We became certified as a therapy dog team by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs in 2021.

Nugget will almost always meet you at the door! In the office, Nugget gets to choose how he would like to participate in session. Sometimes that looks like snuggling on the couch, napping in the corner on his bed, asking for pets when he knows he needs some extra TLC, or playing with kiddos who want to engage with more energy like playing fetch or running through some tricks for treats. Since he is still a youngster at 5yrs, he can sometimes get a little excited, but knows to calm down when he wears his harness instead of just his therapy dog bandana.
